If you plan on owning many websites, then multiple hosting is a great way to go. Instead of hosting one website on one account, you can host many websites on a single account, significantly lowering your hosting costs. In a nutshell, you only pay for one account and yet host many websites.
Most hosting companies only allow you to host one website per domain. This is because they have many customers, and need to maximize their profit to justify opening up more hosting space, so they’ll expect you to open another account if you want to host another domain.
One of the disadvantages of multiple hosting is that if all your websites becoming popular, you may exceed the bandwidth limit for a particular month and have your website receive limited access. You can offset this by purchasing another account with added bandwidth limits.
However, this disadvantage is a small one. The savings you will have far offset this small factor.
One of the ways multiple hosting is carried out on a single account is by allowing the use of add-on domains. You basically ‘add on’ domains within your account and these are tied in to your main domain. Each account will always have a main domain and all your other domains are hosted under this domain.
Multiple domain hosting is a great way to cut your operating costs drastically. So if you’re still using single hosting domain for your websites, do consider changing to multiple hosting to reduce your costs.
